Ledger® Live: Login | Getting started™ with Ledger®

A concise, practical guide to installing, logging in, and managing your Ledger Live experience.

Welcome — What is Ledger Live?

Ledger Live is the official desktop & mobile application that lets you manage your Ledger hardware wallet and your crypto assets from one secure place. It provides account management, send/receive functions, staking, swapping, and access to third-party services, while keeping your private keys safely offline on the Ledger device.

Before you begin — safety checklist

  • Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website or verified app stores.
  • Never share your recovery phrase (seed phrase) — Ledger or any legitimate service will never ask for it.
  • Verify the app file signature if you download a desktop installer to ensure authenticity.
  • Keep your device firmware and Ledger Live app up to date.

Quick start — install & setup (desktop)

1) Go to the Ledger Live download page and choose your operating system. 2) Install the app and launch it. 3) Select Get started and follow the flow: choose your device model (e.g. Nano S, Nano X), set up a new device or restore using your recovery phrase, then create a PIN on the device. 4) Add accounts inside Ledger Live and sync balances.

Login vs. Connect

Ledger Live does not "login" with an email/password for wallet control — it pairs to your hardware device. You open Ledger Live and connect your Ledger device to sign transactions locally. Keep the device PIN-protected at all times.

Adding accounts & common tasks

After device setup, add accounts (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) via the Accounts tab. You can buy, sell, swap, and stake supported assets using the integrated services in Ledger Live. For specialized actions (e.g., DeFi), Ledger Live offers integrations with third-party providers while your keys stay on the device.

Troubleshooting highlights

  • If Ledger Live fails to detect the device, reconnect, try a different USB cable, or check device firmware.
  • Use the Ledger Support site for detailed step-by-step guides and troubleshooting flows.
  • If you suspect a fake app or malware, remove the app and download only from the official site; never enter your recovery phrase into software.

Security reminders (short)

Your recovery phrase is the single master key to your funds. Store it offline and never share it. Enable passphrase features only if you know how they work. Always verify URLs, file signatures, and app store listings before installing.
